Haleakalā summit
Physical Therapy in Kahului, Maui.
Physical therapy that comes to your home in Central Maui, so work, family, and training for your next event do not have to stop while you recover.
Skip the trip to a clinic.
Kahului is in Central Maui, on the low ground between the West Maui Mountains and the slopes of Haleakalā. Island PT is a mobile practice, so instead of fitting clinic appointments around shifts and school schedules, you are seen at home. See how mobile physical therapy works from start to finish.
Each appointment is with Teddy Zabel, a Doctor of Physical Therapy and board-certified orthopaedic specialist. The person who evaluates you is the person who treats you, visit after visit.
RunEasi assessment
Busy weeks, active weekends, and the aches in between.
Central Maui keeps people moving: long shifts, school runs, yard work, and weekends spent running, playing, or at the beach.
That mix produces the problems we see most often: a low back that tightens up after a day of lifting or sitting, a knee or ankle that has not felt right since a sports injury, a neck and shoulders that carry the stress of the week.
We also guide people through recovery after surgery, and help runners who want a clearer picture of their mechanics through our RunEasi running assessment.
Common reasons people in Kahului reach out- Low back and neck pain from work or long days
- Sports and running injuries
- Recovery after orthopedic surgery
- Ankle, knee, and hip pain that keeps coming back
- Building strength to stay active
A plan with a finish line.
Longer, focused sessions and a defined plan, instead of an open-ended run of short appointments.
Your first evaluation runs about 90 to 120 minutes, so the time goes into understanding the problem properly. From there, Teddy builds a focused 6 to 8 week plan with exercises you keep doing between visits.
Island PT is cash-pay, which keeps visits unhurried and one-to-one. In Hawaiʻi you can also start physical therapy without a referral.
At a glance- Seen at home, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM
- One clinician from evaluation to discharge
- Direct access, no referral needed to begin
- Virtual consultations available

Our three core specialties.
Most plans for Kahului patients draw on one or more of these areas.
Spine & Back Care.
Treatment for back and neck pain that flares with work, driving, or lifting, aimed at the source rather than the symptom.
Mobility & Balance.
Restoring range of motion and control in stiff hips, knees, and ankles so you can move freely and with confidence.
Strength-Based Therapy.
Targeted strength work to help you return to sport, running, and physically demanding days, and to stay there.
Questions from Kahului.
Answers to what Central Maui patients ask us most.
Do you see patients at home in Kahului?
Yes. Island PT is an in-home practice based in Kīhei that serves Central Maui, including Kahului. Sessions take place at your home with the equipment brought to you.
Can you help with running and sports injuries?
Yes. We treat sports and running injuries and offer a RunEasi running assessment for runners who want objective data on how they move. Treatment targets the cause of the injury, not just the sore spot.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
Not to get started. Physical therapy in Hawaiʻi is direct access. The one thing to check: if you want to submit for out-of-network insurance reimbursement, your plan may ask for a referral.
What does cash-pay mean for my visits?
Because we are not working to insurance billing quotas, visits are longer and one-to-one, and the plan is shaped around what you need. Our Why Cash-Pay page explains the details.
