The visit comes to Mākena.

Mākena sits on the South Maui coast, just south of Wailea. Island PT is a mobile practice based in Kīhei, so rather than asking you to drive to a clinic, Teddy travels to your home with the equipment each session needs. Read more about how in-home physical therapy works.

02 / WHO WE SEE IN MĀKENA

Ocean days, coastal walks, and a body that keeps up.

Life down here tends to happen outdoors: a swim before the heat of the day, a long walk on the sand, time in the garden or out on the water.

When something starts to hurt, it often shows up in the shoulders, the low back, the hips, or the knees. Sometimes it is an old injury that never quite settled. Sometimes it is a joint replacement that needs proper rehab, or a sense that your balance is not what it used to be.

We assess how you move as a whole, find what is actually driving the problem, and leave you with a plan you can keep working on between visits.

What brings Mākena patients to us
  • Shoulder pain from swimming and paddling
  • Low back and hip pain that cuts walks short
  • Rehab after knee or hip replacement and other surgery
  • Balance work and fall prevention
  • Rebuilding strength after time away from activity

Common focus areas: Shoulder pain · Low back pain · Post-surgical rehab · Balance training · Osteoarthritis

03 / GETTING STARTED

Start when you are ready.

In Hawaiʻi, physical therapy is direct access, so you can book without a referral.

If your doctor has already suggested physical therapy, or you simply know it is time to deal with a nagging problem, you can reach out to us directly. If you plan to seek out-of-network reimbursement, check whether your insurance plan asks for a referral.

Start with a free discovery call. Tell us what is going on, and we will talk through whether in-home care is the right next step for you.

How care is set up
  • Visits at your home, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM
  • A first evaluation of about 90 to 120 minutes
  • A focused 6 to 8 week plan built to finish
  • Virtual consultations when an in-person visit is not practical

FAQ

Questions about care in Mākena.

What people in Mākena tend to ask before their first visit.

Will you come to my home in Mākena?

Yes. Island PT is a mobile practice based in Kīhei, and in-home visits are how we work. Teddy brings the equipment for your session, so you can stay put rather than travel to a clinic.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No. Hawaiʻi is a direct-access state for physical therapy, so you can book directly. If you plan to seek out-of-network reimbursement, check whether your insurance plan requires a referral.

How long is the first appointment?

Plan on about 90 to 120 minutes. That time goes into a thorough evaluation, so the plan that follows is built on a clear understanding of the problem rather than guesswork.

What happens on the free discovery call?

It is a short, no-cost conversation about what you are dealing with and whether in-home physical therapy is the right next step. You can book it online at a time that suits you.
